Punique Jewelry, The Pre-Colonial Art of Leaf-Folding
Since pre-colonial times, our Filipino ancestors across the islands have woven toys, food containers, and ornaments from abundant materials like palm leaves. In Tagalog, we call this ancient art form puni.
Founded in 2017 by Jonnah Garcia and her mother-in-law, master artisan Noemi Paguia – Garcia, Punique has been championing the revival of puni by innovating the craft into jewelry!
The women artisans of Malolos in Bulacan dry, dye, and weave palm leaves (coconut, "buli" or "buri") into stunning shapes. Each piece is a powerful example of the limitless potential and colorful diversity of Filipinos.

"Punique's mission and vision is anchored on the empowerment of women weavers and artisans in Bulacan, Philippines through the innovative revival of our traditional art of weaving coconut or buli leaves called 'puni.' We believe that through the promotion and modern revival of our cultural heritage, we can provide a sustainable source of additional income for our community."
