Punique Jewelry, The Pre-Colonial Art of Leaf-Folding

Kulay-Kulay, a collection woven for you by Punique

Meaning “color-color”, the Kulay-Kulay Collection is an homage to the bright and colorful Filipino spirit. It is also a reflection of the women of Malolos in Bulacan who are weaving new life into the once-dying art of puni (leaf-folding).

Founded in 2017 by Jonnah Garcia and her mother-in-law, master artisan Noemi Paguia – Garcia, Punique has been championing the revival of puni by innovating the art form!

Puni involves drying, dyeing, and weaving palm leaves (coconut or buli) into stunning shapes. Since pre-colonial times, Filipino artisans have woven toys, food containers, and ornaments. Now, there is puni jewelry too! Each piece is a powerful example of the limitless potential and colorful diversity of Filipinos.
